Mr & Mrs Bead’s China Buying Trip
It’s fun, but hard work in China – but we love it! Together we can only manage to buy around 100 kgms of beads each day, because we visit literally hundreds of shops. Most days we walk over 12-miles, up and down floors, and round-and-round. We didn’t manage the tonne, but shipped back 33 boxes, just under 700 kgms.
After buying most of our beads, we took 3-days break in Yangshou – about 250-miles away. The first few times I visited there it used to take 28-hours boat plus 12-hours bus – now just 2.5-hours train and 1/2-hour drive. And the 150 mph trains cost just £14 each way!
Trains to Kowloon Hong Kong are even faster: just under 200-mph. I can remember when this trip took over 5-hours, now just 53-minutes, and that includes stops.
We had some great meals away. Everything tastes better once you leave the UK! For the best breakfast, we have Dim Sum in Guangzhou or Hong Kong, top-left on the below montage, next right is Temple Street Night Market, Kong Kong. Pic below is Bamboo Rice near Guilin. Next, bottom right on the 4-on is a Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong. And far right is Nigel with a king prawn in an outdoor Guangzhou seafood restaurant. All costs have increased, but still half UK price for like-for-like dishes.
