The Charm of 6mm Beads: Why They’re a Top Choice for Jewellery Making
Bead size is crucial in determining the overall aesthetic and functionality of jewellery. Among the sizes available, 6mm has gained popularity. Their appeal is attributed to several factors that make them a versatile and practical choice for creating beautiful jewellery.
Perfect Balance of Size and Versatility
The 6mm bead strikes a harmonious balance between size and versatility. Not too large to be overwhelming, yet not too small to be insignificant. Allowing them to be used in both delicate and more substantial pieces – suitable for everything from dainty bracelets to statement necklaces.
Ease of Handling and Stringing
For many jewellers, especially beginners, ease of handling is important. 6mm is large enough to be easily manipulated and strung, yet small enough to provide a fine level of detail. The size is compatible with most threading materials, including elastic cord and wire, simplifying the process of creating consistent pieces.
Wide Range of Materials and Finishes
6mm beads come in many materials, including glass, gemstone, acrylic, metal, and wood. Allowing jewellers to experiment with different textures, colours, and finishes – giving their creations a unique and personalized touch. Endless possibilities to suit any style.
Cost-Effectiveness
6mm beads offer a cost-effective option without compromising on quality or visual impact. Their moderate size means that you can create multiple pieces of jewellery without needing an excessive number of beads.
Compatibility with Other Beads and Findings
The 6mm bead complements other bead sizes and findings. The moderate size mixes well with smaller beads for intricate designs, or larger beads for bolder statements. They also fit seamlessly with a variety of spacers, charms, and clasps.
Customizability
6mm beads can be easily customized – ideal for personalized projects, without being too cumbersome. Whether you want to add initials, patterns, or unique colour combinations. Ensuring that your jewellery is unique as the person wearing them.

Rainflower Viewing Stone Beads
Oriental viewing stone is rock carved to look like a mountain or scenic landscape – to conceive a feeling of being at the place. Rainflower viewing stone beads are popular because they create a harmonious feeling and every one looks different.
Rainflower is stone formed along the banks of China’s Yangtze River over millions of years. Jade, chalcedony, jasper and minerals in the rock create colours and patterns, looking like flowers in the rain with rich glittering colours.
Rainflower viewing stone is said to bring harmony, and is helpful to romantic relationships. Balancing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.

Bead Fair Reports
Cornwall Bead Fair – Wadebridge
This was our best Wadebridge show ever – many visitors and all good orders! Attended by cabochons by BeadBuyer, & original-designed jewellery by Sheila of Healing Crystals, along with MrBead. Picture is Nigel from MrBead with Michael, Bead Buyer. See us next in Cornwall, at Probus, spring 2025.
Welsh Bead Fair
Slightly less than usual at this Welsh venue between Cardiff and Bristol. Still, a good show with many sales – and no problem taking cards using the WiFi. Attended by Southampton Bad Shop & MrBead. We’ll be back in 2025!
New Forest Bead Fair
Packed as always at this popular location. Attended by Southampton Bead Shop, Sheila of Healing Crystals, MrBead and other traders. We will return in the spring and late summer 2025.
Enjoy a Bead Fair Soon!
Bead shows are great fun – you will love them! Bring a trolley, as beads get heavy. Take some cash, as a few venues have a weak signal for card payments. Talk to the vendors and other visitors to inspire new design ideas. Make a note of what you paid for beads, and keep exhibitors’ business cards and leaflets.
Next shows are in Essex this Sunday and Beads Up North between Manchester & Liverpool, the following Sunday.
