Spook Up Your Style: Crafting Halloween Jewellery

Halloween JewelleryHalloween is the perfect opportunity to add some eerie elegance to your ensemble. Instead of going for store-bought accessories, try your hand at creating unique, Halloween-inspired jewellery.
Skull Bead Jewellery

Halloween EarringChoose stones that align with the spooky, mysterious atmosphere of the holiday. Like black onyx, obsidian, garnet, amethyst, labradorite, lava, and hematite. These gems come in various shapes, sizes, and finishes, allowing you to create a diverse range of jewellery.

Design Ideas
1. Bewitching Bracelets: Craft a stylish yet eerie bracelet by combining black onyx beads with tiny, silver spider charms. Add some red garnet beads for a pop of colour reminiscent of blood drops.
2. Mystical Necklaces: Create a captivating pendant necklace featuring a labradorite stone that shimmers with enchanting blue and green hues. Accentuate it with silver moon and star charms for a celestial touch.
3. Haunted Earrings: Design hauntingly beautiful earrings with dangling obsidian teardrop beads and bat-shaped charms. These will add a mysterious allure to your Halloween look.
4. Witchy Rings: Craft a statement ring using a large amethyst or hematite bead as the centerpiece. Surround it with smaller obsidian or onyx beads for a gothic vibe.

Halloween Beads

Crafting Steps
1. Design Your Piece: Sketch your design on paper or use a bead design board to lay out your desired pattern.
2. String Your Beads: Thread your semi-precious beads onto the wire or cord according to your design. Be sure to secure the ends with crimp beads and clasps.
3. Add Charms and Accents: Incorporate Halloween-themed charms, pendants, or spacers between your beads to enhance the spooky vibe.
4. Finishing Touches: Trim any excess wire or cord, and use pliers to close jump rings securely.

Skull BeadsSkull Beads
Skull beads are ideal for Halloween, and students have been hanging them on their rucksacks all year. Skulls remind that we all have to die. Skulls show that life is not permanent and are a symbol that we are all flirting with death.

Luton & Oxford Bead Fair Report

Luton
Luton Bead Fair

Oxfordshire
Oxford Bead Fair

Both these shows were very busy, with half the visitors at Luton coming up from North London. Some by train, and some taking the 1/2-hour drive up the M1.

Oxford Bead FairJohnny from Southampton Bead Shop was also flat-out at the Oxfordshire show, in the beautiful village of Hornton. A little way out – but just 15-minutes from Banbury and the M40. We’ll be back at both shows in the spring.

LAVA Rock BEADS

What Are Lava Beads?
Volcantic lava beads are great for dramatic winter jewellery. Lava rock is in abundance at any volcano site, such as in Lanzarote.

The inexpensive stone is surprisingly light, making the present fashion for large chunky jewellery, comfortable to wear. The chic usually-black beads are also available in many different shapes and sizes allowing creative designs. Some are even dyed brown, and others brighter colours.

How They Are FormedLava BeadsLava Beads
Lava beads started life as molten rock over 1,000 Celsius in a volcano. This molten rock is spewed out of the erupting volcano and flows in streams until cooler air freezes it solid.

Lava beads are said to promote strength and fertility. Bring stability, drive away anger – and help to understand a problem, to spring back to a stronger position. A very grounding stone that strengthens our connection to Mother Earth.

Beads from these rocks make very unusual earthy jewellery. Used as pendants or parts of a necklace, these unusual black beads ooze style and mystique, drawing attention whenever worn.

When admiring lava bead jewellery, people will ask, “whatever is it made out of?” This ensures all the mystique and power of a volcano are in your design!

Designing Lava Bead Jewellery
Take advantage of how light these beads weigh, and try making long earrings to match large lava bead pendants for necklaces and bracelets.

Mix different sizes and shapes to make the design interesting. Because most are jet-black, they go well with any colour or style of clothes, making them more appealing, and so easier to sell.Lava Beads

These beads create an earthy rustic style – ideal for “wild” outdoor jewellery, especially for autumn, winter, or Halloween. And as most are large and powerful in a design, you need fewer beads to make your piece, saving money

Lava bead finish Although looking coarse with tiny holes and cracks, most of these beads are polished to feel smooth, making your jewellery comfortable to wear.

ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER JEWELLERY

Plant extracts have been used for thousands of years for their aromas and natural healing powers.  Aromatherapy uses essential oils to balance you emotionally and physically.  Lava beads are ideal for adding oils as they’re porous.

Essential Oil Benefits
The smell receptors in the upper surface of the nasal cavity are linked to the limbic system of the brain, which governs the body’s emotions. This is why certain odors make you feel relaxed or trigger memories.

How To Use
Lava BeadsAll you need do is use your fingers to rub a few drops of oil on the beads. Or you can use a roller bottle to do the same. However, be sure to use quality therapeutic-grade oil to avoid any adverse reaction with the skin.

Which Oils?
Lava BeadsExperiment with your favourite oil and others to see which you like best. Some like peppermint or citrus for a quick energy boost – others prefer lavender and Doterra blends for relaxation.  Over time some citrus oils can burn the skin in sunlight.  Try mixing different oils for effect.

How Long Does the Scent Last?
A drop or two will last about 2 to 4 hours, and remember to allow a few minutes for the oil to absorb into the bead for wearing, to avoid staining clothes. More oil with last up to 24-hours.
