Semi Precious Beads For May Jewellery
May brings a distinct shift in mood—longer days, softer light, and the full emergence of spring. A time when wardrobes lighten, colours brighten – with jewellery following suit capturing the freshness of the season.
A Natural Fit for the Season
Semi-precious stones like amethyst, rose quartz, aquamarine, jade, and turquoise, are formed in nature over millions of years. Their organic origins make them especially fitting for spring: a season of growth and renewal. In May, these stones appear in softer palettes: pale greens, blush pinks, sky blues, and milky whites – echoing blossoms, new leaves, and clear skies.
Aquamarine, with its calm, watery tones, reflects the lightness of early summer days, while rose quartz complements the season’s romantic feel. Green stones like aventurine or jade reflect the abundance of foliage and blooming gardens.
Light, Layered, and Effortless Styling
Jewellery trends in May favour ease and layering. Well-suited to Semi-precious bead pieces. Delicate bead bracelets can be stacked in complementary colours – while longer necklaces can be layered to create texture without heaviness.
Unlike more formal jewellery, bead pieces often feel relaxed and wearable—ideal for everything from garden gatherings to holidays abroad. They pair effortlessly with linen, cotton, and lighter fabrics that dominate spring wardrobes.
The Rise of Handmade and Personalised Pieces
There has been a noticeable shift toward handmade and artisan jewellery in recent years, and May is prime time for this trend. Craft markets, outdoor fairs, and small independent makers gain visibility as people spend more time outdoors and seek unique, personal items.
Semi-precious beads lend themselves beautifully to customisation. Wearers are increasingly drawn to pieces that feel meaningful. Whether that’s a birthstone bracelet, a necklace designed with specific colours in mind, or jewellery believed to carry symbolic or calming properties.
Symbolism and Meaning
Many semi-precious stones are associated with particular qualities, which adds another layer of appeal. For example:
• Amethyst is linked to clarity and calm
• Rose quartz is associated with love and emotional balance
• Turquoise is seen as protective and grounding
• Citrine is connected with positivity and energy
Sustainability and Conscious Choices
As awareness around sustainability grows, semi-precious bead jewellery is also benefiting from a perception of being more natural – and more responsibly sourced than mass-produced alternatives. Beaded jewellery is also often restrung, repaired, or redesigned, giving it a longer life cycle than trend-led fashion pieces.

windsor Bead Fair Report

We done well, but the show was not as busy as last year. We had a problem getting in the hall – the key code was wrong. However, Johnny from Southampton Bead Shop saved the day by searching his past emails, finding the code I sent him last year, and tying that. Amazingly it worked and we got in at 8am!
We’ll be back at Windsor on Sunday 1st November.
Teardrop & Briolette Beads – The Jewellery Designer’s Friend!
Graceful teardrop beads are a timeless and versatile option cherished by artisans. They resemble delicate droplets of water, and are a stable in every jewellery-makers toolkit.
Elegant Aesthetic Appeal
Teardrop beads add gracefulness to your piece. Their smooth, streamlined contours mimic the organic shape of a teardrop – a sense of fluidity and delicacy. Whether used as focal points or accents, they create a touch of sophistication and refinement into necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.
Versatility in Design
One of the advantages of teardrops is their versatility. Available in various sizes, colours, and materials like glass, crystal, gemstone, and acrylic, they offer endless possibilities. Whether you’re aiming for a classic, vintage-inspired look – or a contemporary, avant-garde style.
Enhanced Movement and Drape
The elongated shape of teardrop beads creates jewellery with movement and drape. Like dangling earrings or cascading necklaces, they sway gracefully with the wearer’s movements, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. Their fluidity adds an element of dynamic energy, drawing attention to the intricacies of the design.
Focal Point and Emphasis
Teardrops serve as striking focal points. Whether used singly or clustered together for added impact, they create interest. Their distinctive shape and lustrous appearance are ideal for highlighting specific elements of a design. Whether it’s a vibrant gemstone, a shimmering crystal, or a captivating pendant.
Subtle Symbolism
Teardrop beads also hold subtle symbolism that adds depth and meaning. The teardrop shape is associated with love, compassion, and resilience – giving the jewellery layers of significance.
Ease of Incorporation
Despite their intricate appearance, teardrops are remarkably easy to incorporate into jewellery. Whether strung together on wire, threaded onto cord, or incorporated into wire-wrapped designs. Their versatility and ease of use make them an ideal choice for jewellery makers of all skill levels.

Enjoy a Bead Fair Soon
Bead shows are great fun. You’ll love them! Bring a trolley, as beads get heavy. Take some cash, as a few venues have a weak signal for card payments. Talk to the vendors and other visitors to inspire new design ideas. Make a note of what you paid for beads, and keep exhibitors’ business cards and leaflets.
