How To Choose Beads
There’s literally billions of permutations of beads: material, shape, size and texture. So to find exactly want you want will be difficult. However, if you’re flexible, there are ways to make searching easier.
- The Search Box is always the fastest – be specific.
- If this brings up too much, try Categories.
- At MrBead you can also search by Shape or Colour.
- Then from there, you can select size.
- On the MrBead shop you can also search each category by New to Old, A-Z, Z-A, Price Low to High and best sellers. Plus you can choose to view these by grid or list modes.
Of course, exactly what your looking for may not be available. It pays not to be stubborn. People at fairs walk around looking for beads like their sample: but rarely find. Change your design to fit similar. If you think you may need exactly the same bead in the future: always order more to start with.
Heishi & Rondelle Beads
Heishi Beads
Heishi beads (pronounced ‘hee shee’), are small disc beads, differing from rondelles by being flat.
They date back over 8,000 years, when originally made from polished stone or shell. The word originates from American Indians around New Mexico, where it could take days to produce just a few beads.
Today they’re mechanically mass-produced, so becoming affordable to everyone. Because heishis lay on a string close together, there’s always a lot of beads per strand.
Rondelle Beads
Rondelles are flattened spherical beads – being the most popular shape for jewellery making, after round. They differ from heishi by their curve. Rondelles make a lovely alternative to round beads, and make your jewellery designs more interesting.
They’re also known as Abacus Beads, going back thousands of years in China. However, the abacus was also used in many other countries to count, long before numbers were invented. The first abacus was likely to use wooden beads, but all materials can be modelled into this shape.

How To easily Clean Jewellery
There are hundreds of home recipes using all sorts of household ingredients to clean jewellery. No need to waste money on special cleaners.
Keep your jewellery looking as amazing as the day you bought it. Try these easy and cheap cleaning options with an old toothbrush and a clean rag:
• Ammonia
Great for cleaning diamonds. Mix four cups with one cup of warm water, then soak the jewellery for about 15-minutes and clean with a toothbrush. Rinse with clear water and cloth dry.
• Toothpaste
Mix warm water with the toothpaste and use a toothbrush to clean – rinse and dry after.
• Vinegar
Simply pore white vinegar into any container and soak the jewellery for 15-minutes. Dusting with Diatomaceous Earth after, will prevent tarnishing. Clean with a toothbrush and finish with a water rinse and dry.
• Rennie or any Antiacids
Indigestion tablets cure more than heartburn! Place two into a container of warn water and soak the jewellery in the bubbles for 2-mintues. Rinse with clear water and dry to finish.
• Baking Soda & Aluminum Foil
Great to remove tarnish from silver. Line a tray with the foil, lay the jewellery on, and sprinkle with baking powder. Then slowly pore a cup of boiling water on. The tarnish will collect on the tin foil. Then turn the jewellery over and repeat on the other side. Finish with a a water rinse and cloth dry.
• Salt, Baking Powder & Detergent
Best for gold jewellery. Mix a cup of hot water with a teaspoonful or baking powder with the same of salt & washing powder. Soak the jewellery for 10-minutes, wash with water and dry.
• Soap & Water
Good for soft or porous semi-precious stones like turquoise or pearls. Use warn water with laundry detergent. Rinse & cloth dry.

At MrBead we offer a no questions return policy – you can mail anything you don’t like back, and we’ll refund you. So you have nothing to loose ordering!
However, as late, we’re getting beads mailed back with no mention of who they’re from or what order. It can take us up to 1/2-an-hour to work out who to refund on these – against a 2-minute refund if you tell us the order number with the return.
