Jewellery Trends For 2021
Some 2020 Trends Will Continue
Jewellery in 2020 was influenced by lockdown and our changing lifestyle. Creative, matching face masks and fuss-free jewellery, especially around the face. Like long, dramatic earrings and studs.
Colleagues only see your top on Zoom. So previously-unpopular styles, like brooches and choker necklaces caught on. Chains were big, and this is expected to flow through to 2021.
So much time inside, brought an increase in spirituality and amulets to ward off the virus and bring good luck. Trends for the year were also dominated by protecting the planet and environment. Earthy, grounding jewellery, connected to the natural world.
2021 Jewellery
This back-to-nature theme will continue, and be the primary source of inspiration for new year jewellery. Tribal and African designs could become more popular, boosted by the Black Life’s Matter movement.
With widespread immunity coming in 2021, brought on with new vaccines, I’d expect a celebration of life designs. A riot of vivid rainbow colour and bold styles. Striking jewellery that shouts freedom, renewal, rejuvenation, and growth.
Floral jewellery is thought to become popular in 2021 – use flower beads in earrings, bracelets and necklaces, and especially for bridal jewellery. Pearls are also expected to be fashionable.
After so much attention to ‘Zoom Face’, ladies will be keen to show off lower-down jewellery, like long layered necklaces. Play around with different lengths and mismatching designs and textures. And maybe waist jewellery will appear.
Mismatching
Mismatching earrings are expected to continue in Vogue – big and bold. Experiment with this versatile trend: try combining hoops, charms or pendants. They look great close-up on Instagram!
Get Ready For The Rush!
Many people have saved lots of money without holidays, commuting, and nights out. They’ll be keen to splash out on new jewellery once socialising is once again allowed. Some will have money to burn, with pent up emotion restrained from lockdown sales.

Charm Bracelets Are Hot!
Charm bracelets are back in fashion – not that they really went away. Everyone loves charm bracelets, and they’re very easy to make.
Why are charm bracelets so special?
These beautiful bracelets are a personalized gift to someone close for mother, weddings, children, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and all occasions. Like a history of life to carry everywhere. A gift that never stops giving. An instant reminder of those who are important to her.
Charm bracelets are not only a truly unique gift, but also the building bricks for future presents. Allowing you to add charms for every future occasion. It’s so much fun!
History Of Charms
Carrying charms to ward off evil dates to Neolithic times where hunters wore stones for luck.
Egyptians used charms for identification and to please their gods in the afterlife. In Roman times, Christians hid fish charms in their clothing to identify themselves to other believers – the Greek word for fish was an acronym for Christ. Charms protected medieval knights, and in the Dark Ages they represented heritage and religion.
Later, superstition made charms an important part of life for most people – even the common folk depended on them for well being. Today’s charm jewellery stems from Queen Victoria’s fascination with charms and pendants, making elaborate charm bracelets fashionable amongst the gentry of the time.
Why wear a charm bracelet?
Charms are often collected as reminders of good times, and are carried because their sentiment makes the wearer feel comfortable.
Modern bracelets allow charms to be added and removed to express moods, explaining their continued popularity.
One is never too old for a charm bracelet. Many ageing celebrities decorate their wrists with them, and top hip-hop singers wear million-dollar Shamballa bracelets. All make you feel good and are great conversation starters.
How to design your own charm bracelet
Charms are versatile – decide how simple or complicated you want. When choosing charms, apply your style and sentimental history. Go with a theme that tells a story – such as expression of love, favourite animals or colours.
Fine-boned wrists need tiny charms, unless you have big hands. Larger charms on a chunky bracelet are best for larger bones. Long and thin arms are lucky enough to be able to stack a multitude of charm bracelets, Cleopatra style. Charms on a bracelet should face outwards, although some prefer the other way.
How To Make a Charm Bracelet
- Get your charms, jump rings, clasps and chain ready.
- Open a jump ring with round-nosed pliers. Open ‘crooked’ so as to keep the ring’s shape.
- Put charm on the ring, making sure it’s facing the way you want.
- Thread the ring and charm into a hoop of the chain, and press the jump ring together with the pliers to close.
- When finished, add a small clasp the same way.
