Berwick-Upon-Tweed Bead Fair
Saturday 15th August at Ancroft Village Hall, Northumberland TD15 2T. Ancroft Village is off the A1 along the B6524 Berwick to Wooler Road, 5-miles from Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
The hall is on the right (from Berwick) just before & opposite the church. Easy free parking. A few miles south of the Scottish border. Only 60-miles from Edinburgh or Newcastle. Combine your visit with the Holy Island of Lindisfarne – 15-minutes away. Click for full details here.
Scottish Bead Fair
Sunday 16th August at the Normandy Hotel, Inchinnan Road, Renfrew, Glasgow PA4 9EJ. With MrBead, Southampton Bead Shop and other exhibitors. Huge range of semi precious, crystal beads, pearls and everything for making great jewellery.

Penrith Bead Fair
Sunday 23rd August at Stainton Village Hall, Kings Arms, Penrith CA11 0EP. The latest semi precious beads by MrBead, seed beads & findings by Southampton Bead Shop, North Cumbria Beadworkers and more. Advise on beadwork and making beaded jewellery.
Stay the weekend and combine with a lake cruise on an Ullswater steamer, which is just 7-miles south. It’s great around the Lake District in August! The new-built venue has air-con & wifi. For locals, bus X5 runs every hour on Sunday from Penrith to Workington – get off at the Methodist Church in Stainton, for 1-minute walk to the hall. Or under 5-minutes drive from M6 Junction 40, and 9-minutes from the centre of Penrith – or 10-minutes from Ullswater. For full details click here.

Welsh Bead Fair
The Welsh show was a little quiet. However, we love the new hall – so easy to setup. It looks a bit out of the way, but only 5-mins from the M4, and 45-mins from Bristol or Cardiff.
Cornish Bead Fair
This show was brilliant! Very busy from start to finish – even better than last year. They love us in Cornwall! We’ll be back there next year in Probus.
London Gem n Bead Fair
I think this will be our last Kempton Park Gem & Bead Fair. Usually the largest and best Gem n Bead, but this one was disappointing. Less than half takings of last year, with very few visitors. A lot of the time we spend reading and chatting to other exhibitors. Despite taking up three days (we set up on the Friday) and spending almost £1,000 on the five tables. Plus we could only display half our stock in this space – we usually have 12 tables at our own shows. A lot of time and work for little reward.
PERIDOT: THE COOLING GEMSTONE FOR AUGUST
The name Peridot sounds summer cooling. Its vivid, shimmering aqua-green colour is the ideal gemstone to complement a light summertime outfit.
Peridot (pronounced pair-a-doe) is the gem variety of olivine. A mineral formed under intense heat. Named from the French word Peridot, meaning unclear, due to its inclusions and cloudy nature – or the Greek Peridona, meaning ‘giving plenty’.
Small crystals of peridot are found in rocks by volcanoes. Because the iron which creates the colour is an integral part of its structure, its colour is always green – ranging from transparent lime to olive green. One of the few gemstones with only one colour and is always small beads.
Peridot has been mined for thousands of years. Said to be the favourite gem of Cleopatra, and mentioned in the Bible. In ancient Egypt it was mined at night because legend tells that peridot was hard to see during the day.
Peridot has been confused with emerald and many jewellers refer to it as “evening emerald”. Peridot was later used to decorate medieval churches, carried back to Europe by the Crusaders, like the huge stones of more than 200 carats in size at Cologne Cathedral.
Peridot is recommended for insomnia, digestive problems and to stimulate the mind. Some say it can repel evil spirits. Peridot is for people with the star sign of Leo.

Bead shows are great fun. You’ll love them! Bring a trolley, as beads get heavy. Take some cash, as a few venues have a weak signal for card payments. Talk to the vendors and other visitors to inspire new design ideas. Make a note of what you paid for beads, and keep exhibitors’ business cards and leaflets.
